Terms of Service
Effective date: August 3, 2026
These are the terms for using Points & Prompts, the web application at pointsandprompts.com, operated by Jeremy Smith, a sole proprietor ("we," "us"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. We've written them to be read, not skimmed past — they're short, and they say what actually happens.
The short version. Points & Prompts helps you get more value from credit-card points and miles. It gives guidance, not financial advice. Rewards programs change their rules constantly and we can be wrong or out of date, so verify anything important before you act on it. Pro is $5/month or $48/year, renews automatically, and you can cancel anytime. Bank connections are optional and read-only. Don't abuse the service, and we'll both be fine.
What Points & Prompts is
Points & Prompts is a tool for understanding and getting more out of the credit-card points, airline miles, and hotel points you already earn. You tell it about your cards and balances (or optionally connect a bank), and it helps you figure out which card to use where, what your points are worth, and how to plan around them. Some of it is free; the personalized parts are paid (see "Points & Prompts Pro" below).
What Points & Prompts is not
This part matters, so please actually read it.
- It is not financial, tax, or legal advice. We are not a financial advisor, broker, accountant, or law firm, and nothing in the app — including AI-generated answers — is a substitute for one. It's guidance about rewards programs, offered for information purposes.
- It can be wrong or out of date. Card issuers, airlines, and hotels change their earning rates, transfer partners, valuations, and rules whenever they like, usually without telling anyone first. We work to keep our data current, but you should verify terms directly with the issuer or program before applying for a card, transferring points, or making any decision that's hard to undo.
- It does not hold your money or your points. We never have access to move money, redeem points, apply for cards, or make transactions on your behalf. Bank connections, where you choose to use them, are read-only (see "Connecting a bank" below).
- Point valuations are estimates. The dollar values we show for points and miles are our informed estimates, not market prices or promises. Your actual redemption value depends on how you use them.
Your account
- You need to be at least 18 to use Points & Prompts — it's a tool about credit cards, which you need to be an adult to hold.
- Give us an accurate email address and keep control of it; it's how you sign in and how we reach you.
- You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. If you think someone else has gotten into it, tell us at [email protected] and we'll help.
- One account per person. It's yours — don't sell it, share it, or transfer it.
Acceptable use
Use the service for its intended purpose: managing and understanding your own rewards. Don't:
- Try to break, probe, or overload the service, or access data that isn't yours;
- Scrape, bulk-export, or resell our data, valuations, or recommendations;
- Use automated tools to hammer the AI features or evade usage limits;
- Use the service for anything illegal, or to violate a card issuer's or rewards program's terms;
- Misrepresent who you are or connect financial accounts that aren't yours.
If an account is doing these things, we can suspend or close it. We'd rather not — if we do, and you think we've made a mistake, write to us.
Points & Prompts Pro (subscriptions)
- Price. Pro costs $5 per month or $48 per year (which works out to $4/month). Prices are in US dollars.
- What's paid and what's free. Pro unlocks the personalized, wallet-aware features — your full Points Strategy and unmetered AI questions. The public card and program reference catalogue stays free.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period — monthly plans monthly, annual plans yearly — until you cancel.
- Cancel anytime. You can cancel from within the app, and cancelling stops the next charge. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you've already paid for. The details, including refunds, are in our Refund & Cancellation policy.
- Price changes. If we change prices, we'll tell you by email before your renewal at the new price, with enough notice to cancel first. We won't change the price of a period you've already paid for.
Connecting a bank (Plaid)
Connecting a bank is optional — you can use everything by typing in your cards and spending by hand. If you do connect one:
- The connection is made through Plaid, and it is read-only. It can see transactions; it cannot move money, and neither can we.
- Your bank credentials go directly to Plaid inside its secure window. We never see or store them.
- We keep only monthly spending totals by category — not your individual transactions, merchant names, or account numbers. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
- You can disconnect a bank at any time from within the app, which removes the connection and instructs Plaid to remove its access.
- You confirm that any account you connect is yours, and your use of Plaid is also subject to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy.
Your data when you cancel or delete
- Cancelling Pro doesn't delete anything. Your account, wallet, and settings stay; you just drop back to the free tier when your paid period ends.
- Disconnecting a bank removes the connection and Plaid's access. The data you typed in yourself stays.
- Deleting your account removes your profile data from our systems. This is available in-app, and it's not conditional on anything — you don't need to email us or explain.
Retention periods and the specifics are in the Privacy Policy.
Whose stuff is whose
- Your data is yours. The wallet you build, balances you enter, and questions you ask stay your information. You give us permission to use them to run the service for you — that's it. We don't sell them or use them for advertising.
- The service is ours. The software, design, card and program data compilations, valuations, and content of Points & Prompts belong to us or our licensors. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use the service; you don't get to copy, resell, or republish it.
- Card issuer, airline, and hotel names and logos belong to their owners. We're not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ITS DATA, VALUATIONS, OR RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR CURRENT.
In plain terms: we work hard to make it good and keep it right, but we can't promise it, and you shouldn't rely on it as if we had.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST POINTS OR MILES, LOST REWARDS VALUE, OR LOST DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR $50, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update this page, revise the effective date above, and — for material changes — email you before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms. If you don't, cancel and, if you like, delete your account; the Refund & Cancellation policy covers what happens to any paid period.
Ending things
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, and we can discontinue the service itself — if we ever do that, we'll give paid subscribers reasonable notice and a prorated refund of any unused paid period.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Douglas County, Colorado. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
